As an author and spirit medium, I am asked, “How do you write a guided poem, and what is it anyway?”

To me, a “guided” poem is a fully formed poem that I just transcribe, not write. How does this happen? When I am in a relaxed state, I can hear or feel the words coming to me from another source. Sometimes it is from my spirit guides. Other times it seems to be a soulmate from another lifetime. The key is being in a relaxed state when my vibrational frequency is in tune with the source.

Those of us old enough to remember the Beatles may recall they once admitted to using drugs to magically write the words and music for their songs. I believe they used drugs to get to this relaxed state and could therefore “receive” the messages they were meant to gift humanity with.

More recently you may be aware of folks who travel to Peru, notably Machu Picchu, to experience higher levels of awareness or consciousness. They are guided by a shaman and use a drug called Ayahuasca.  They too can receive great insights and information to help them on their life journey.  I believe the drug helps them relax so they can tap into this source.

Some call this source of knowledge God, the Divine, Universal wisdom/consciousness, higher intuition, or your higher self. I call it “All That Is” because to me anyway, it can be anyone or anything.

The point is not what you call it. The point is accessing this higher level of consciousness so you can gain insights or understanding to help you on your current life’s journey. You can also use this method to be creative because you are tapping into divine wisdom.

This wisdom is available to EVERYONE, and you don’t need drugs to access it. You just need a way, a method, or a system to get yourself relaxed enough that your brainwaves are vibrating at the right frequency. Think of it like a radio, when you don’t get the station unless you are on the right frequency.

People have been doing this “connecting” for centuries. That is what meditation can do for you. Some people can get there doing yoga and pilates. Others can get to this relaxed state via jogging. Yes, even jogging! I have had many lifetimes exposed while doing long 10 mile runs to build up my endurance!

What all these methods have in common is deep breathing, which brings a state of calmness to one’s being. These methods teach your body how to slow down to the present moment, forget your “to do” list, and just learn to “be.” This is something that we have forgotten how to do with the busy lifestyles of today!

The good thing about discovering a method that works for you is that your body will easily and automatically go to this state once you practice it enough! I remember taking a yoga class after I learned how to connect. It only took two breaths and I clearly heard, “you’re in,” meaning I was in the relaxed state!

If you are looking for a simple, easy-to-follow method to tap into higher consciousness, that doesn’t involve exercise or drugs, I have you covered!

What if there were no mistakes in life?

What if, no matter which path you chose, it was not wrong, but instead led you right where you were supposed to be?

What kind of freedom would that give you? How much stress and anxiety would that take off your shoulders to know there is no such thing as a “mistake”?

My observation and reflections of life have brought to light that this is indeed true!

You see, those ‘detours’ or what others might call ‘mistakes’ are merely lessons, we are here to learn on our journey through life. Eventually, we all get back on the right path.

The other morning, I was out jogging in Pula, Croatia, making my way from the neighborhood to a walking/jogging path along the sea.

On the way back I was uncertain which way to go at the fork in the road. I picked one way. It turned out not to be the way I had ventured down to the sea. But it ended up back on the main road anyway.

The result -  I learned that each path would take me to the sea. Each path would take me back to the main road. And I found a new, different and equally as beautiful way. It made me feel bolder in my choices, more certain of myself, and not afraid of becoming ‘lost’.

It’s not just jogging in a new city where this applies. Think about your business life, your personal life and your spiritual or religious life. There is always more than one way to get where you want to be. Some would say the circuitous route is the one that led them to their greatest passion.

In business, it has been said that to fail fast and fail often is the quickest way to achieve your goals. Mistakes are often the quickest way to learn!

In personal growth, one is encouraged to reach outside our comfort zone so we can expand and more comfortably handle and enjoy our lives. Going out into the unknown will sometimes result in ‘mistakes’ or ‘lessons’, but that is all part of the growth process. We won’t grow at all if we don’t try.

It seems to me that the biggest mistake is not to stretch at all.

In spiritual or religious circles, the mantra is more of accepting that God or your higher power has a plan for us already and it’s up to us to discover and experience it.

With these thoughts in mind, why would we worry if we fail?? The worst that could happen is we’d be closer to where we want to be and will learn something along the way.

This brings me back to my point – if we knew we wouldn’t fail – what would we do?

I encourage you to be brave unafraid to fail and dream ‘What if?’ This is something we each need to learn to do.

Time alone is good for the soul.
It helps us to reflect, reconsider and shape the future of our lives.

It is only when we get to this place of calm that we can connect to the Universe and understand our place within it.

To learn how to have a Spiritual Awakening, begin by understanding how it's different from Spiritual Enlightenment.

Spiritual Awakening

A Spiritual Awakening is an event that occurs when one is ready to start on a spiritual path. This can occur in a variety of ways, but I believe it is spurred by a deep, intense desire to learn and understand more about life.

When I experienced it, I was searching for answers and working diligently to discover what a spiritual life meant and how to live one. I wasn't trying to understand how to have a Spiritual Awakening. I didn’t have much of a clue what any of that meant! Even though a friend was advising me, I was still quite the "spiritual babe in the woods" so to speak.

My awakening occurred during an intimate moment of totally "letting go" with a person with whom I could (finally) be myself.

During this transcendent event, I felt a total understanding of why I had been through the trauma and aftermath of having my 35 year marriage unravel. I also felt a tremendous overflowing of love like never before. My body and soul were telling me, “It was all for a reason, and you are right with the Universe now.” I felt an immense amount of peace and calmness.

At the time I truly did not know what it was. I kept thinking, “What the heck was that?”

(I later found out it was called "kundalini" and I wasn’t the only one to ever experience it. Thanks Google!)

Spiritual Enlightenment

A Spiritual Awakening leads one on a path of Spiritual Enlightenment, which is a journey.

The Tibetans call it “The Path to Enlightenment.” This is where we learn to master the many lesson we are here on Earth to experience. We grow and evolve, and hopefully serve as an example to others of how to live an enlightened life. A life that our Higher Power (whomever that may be) desires of us.

There is much to learn on the path of Spiritual Enlightenment. I was granted the honor of preparing these lessons to share with the people of the world in my easy-to-understand discourse -- “The New I Am Document - Volume 1” -- which is available on Amazon in paperback or Kindle.

While I didn't write it as a guide on how to have a Spiritual Awakening, it can provide you with an understanding of why we are here and what our purpose is. You don't need to spend years in deep meditation or seeking wisdom from complicated books, this simple document can take years off of your spiritual journey.
